The Golden Gate Fishing Derby has been
postponed due to the catastrophic decline of our local King
Salmon, as well as the major uncertainty surrounding our pending
fishing closures.
The salmon fishery for the 2007 season
are by some counts down 90% from just a few years
ago.
The rockfish season was prematurely
closed due to
the redirection of fishing presure away from the dismal salmon
catch.
The powers that be are currently deciding the
extent of closures of most of our nearshore and/or shallow water
fishing grounds through the Marine
Life Protection Act (MLPA).
2008 will certainly be a difficult
fishing season for the Bay Area.

Fishing the Bay Area or coastal
waters is easy if you book in advance. Saturdays are always
the most popular and sell out well in advance. Weekdays are
easier and often even cheaper, but they too sell out quickly
when the fishing reports and especially the salmon fishing are
red hot.
